WELCOME TO BENAMOCARRA Good BnB can be found within the spanish village of Benamocarra and is only a 35 minute drive east of Malaga airport on the E15 motorway. Benamocarra is of Arabic origin and still retains its Moorish influence with its narrow winding streets and whitewashed houses. This is a village that is unspoilt by excessive tourism and it remains very traditional. The people of Benamocarra are very friendly and welcoming and a smile is the universal language. There is a population of about 3000. You don't have to leave the village to buy what you want, the facilities within Benamocarra include banks, post office, chemist, shops that sell anything and everything and of course several bars where you will find a lower bar bill than when staying in tourist resorts. The large municipal swimming pool is open for you to enjoy from mid June to mid September - this is in its own relaxing grounds with lawned areas, parasols and its own bar/cafe and changing facilities.
Village swiming pool (open june-sept) There are many fiestas celebrated throughout the year from solemn candlelight processions to raucous and joyous street parties. These are events to be enjoyed and appreciated by all. Everybody both young and old are invited to take part and experience the traditions that have been unchanged throughout the years. Benamocarra is well positioned not only for the beaches of the Costa del Sol but, is also an excellent location for exploring the beautiful inland areas of the Axarquia region within Andalucia with its white towns and villages dotted about the countryside. One of the oldest cities in Spain is Ronda which is to the north of Malaga and has the oldest bullring in the country which was built in 1785. Ronda is famous for its spectacular setting and views of the bridge over the El Tajo ravine. Other historic cities that are beautiful and worth visiting are Seville, Cordoba and Granada with its spectacular Alhambra (advisable to book entry tickets before making the journey) There is a bus service that runs from the village (bus stop 100m from house) with routes to the nearest town of Velez Malaga (4Km) and nearest beach resort of Torre del Mar(9Km) where there is a terminal with the option to travel further afield to Granada and down to Malaga too. It is recommended that you have the use of a car to explore the region If you are wanting to relax and enjoy the sun, sand and sea, our nearest coastal resort is Torre del Mar which is essentially a Spanish resort, with a 3Km long promenade that stretches all the way to the marina and fishing port of Caleta de Velez. There are many chiringuitos (beach bars) to sample and enjoy, at most of these you can also hire beach beds with parasols for the day. To the west of Torre del Mar (2Km) beaches for naturists can be found but, these are well signposted so you shouldn’t stray onto them by mistake!
The fountain statue in the village centre The Costa del Sol has a wealth of beaches and with more than 300km of Mediterranean coastline it is still possible to find smaller secluded beaches and rocky coves. To the east of Nerja you will find the coastal village of Maro where you can enjoy beautiful views from the cliffs. Continue your journey eastwards and you will soon enter the region of Granada and the Costa Tropical resorts of Almunecar, La Herradura and Salobrena. The Granada region is an area where Tapas are still served free with a glass of beer or wine. Travel westwards to Malaga and beyond and you can enjoy the hustle and bustle of the larger and more well known resorts of Torremolinos, Fuengirola and Marbella. Even further west (2hrs) is Gibraltar. Remember your passports and don’t be tempted to exceed your duty free allowances, they do random checks and know all the hiding places in cars. There are several marinas on the Costa del Sol and two worth a visit are Benalmádena with its individual architechture and Puerto Banus. Goodbnb makes an ideal base when searching for your own ‘Place in the sun’. We are only 10 minutes away from the motorway network which will help you plan your viewing schedules with ease and make the exploration of the villages and countryside much easier and enjoyable. With more than 70 estate agents in Torre del Mar alone you should be able to find the place of your dreams.
View to Mount Maroma Benamocarra is ideally situated for more energetic pursuits including:- GOLF - The nearest course ‘Baviera Golf’ is only a 15 minute drive away. The Sierra Tejada is ideal for walkers and several routes are signposted. More information on walking trails can be obtained from local tourist information offices. SKIING - And of course snowboarding, Good BnB is approximately 2 hours drive from the breathtaking Sierra Nevada which means that it is possible to enjoy the pleasures of sand and snow in the same day. You can unwind here after the enjoyable and energetic pursuits of the day and relax even further the next day on the beach! OFF ROAD MOTORCYCLING - About 30 minutes from Benamocarra you have the opportunity to enjoy an exhilarating day of off road motorcycling tours. Quad bike off road tours are also available. BIRDWATCHING - Spring and autumn are good periods to observe the migration of European birds. There is a Nature Reserve not faraway from the airport at Malaga which is good for bird watching. Further north to the west of Antequera is an area of outstanding beauty ‘Laguna de Fuente de Piedra’ which is also known as the ‘Pink Lagoon’ because a large colony of pink flamingos travel there every year to breed. The time to see this spectacular event is from the end of January to June. ART - Malaga was the birthplace of the famous painter ‘Pablo Ruiz Picasso’. In the centre of the old quarter of Malaga you will find the museum that is dedicated to Picasso and his works. There is an entrance fee charged but, it is worth noting that entry to the museum is free on the last Sunday of each month between the hours of 3pm to 8pm. The house in which he was born is also a museum, a nominal fee is charged for entry. SHOPPING - There are a few large shopping centres to be explored and the centres of Velez-Malaga (4Km) and Torre Del Mar(11Km) have a choice of diverse shops not found in the more commercial centres. There are many markets held in the local
area. There are many beautiful villages to be seen and only a short distance from Benamocarra. We can only encourage you to explore them. A couple of unusual places to visit are the Nerja Caves which were discovered in 1959 by young boys. There is an annual festival held here during the month of July when famous national and international artists perform in this unusual setting. Opening hours are 10.00-14.00 and 16.00-18.30 (20.00 in July/August). In Rincon de la Victoria you will find The Treasure Cave, this is the only visitable marine cave in Europe. Paintings of animals have been discovered in the cave and also ceramics from the Neolithic Age.
